NVIDIA has officially launched the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 graphics cards, along with a new update for the NVIDIA app, following the company's announcement of its flagship GPUs at the CES 2025 exhibition. In this article, we take you on a quick tour of the new RTX cards, what NVIDIA has released, and the new technologies.

NVIDIA has further developed its DLSS technology with the introduction of DLSS 4, which includes a new feature called DLSS Multi Frame Generation for graphics cards and laptops in the GeForce RTX 50 series. With the availability of the GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080, NVIDIA is also rolling out new GeForce Game Ready driver updates, the NVIDIA Studio driver, and a major update for the NVIDIA app.

Introducing DLSS 4. 

his week, DLSS 4 technology introduces significant updates, including the largest improvement to its AI models since the launch of DLSS 2.0 in 2020. DLSS Super Resolution, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, and DLAA are now supported by the first actual and immediate implementation of “transformers” in the graphics industry. This is the same advanced architecture that powers leading AI models like ChatGPT, Flux, and copyright. Transformer-based DLSS models improve image quality by enhancing image stability during real-time operation, reducing ghosting, and providing higher details during motion.

The DLSS Frame Generation technology has also been updated, boosting performance and reducing VRAM consumption on GeForce RTX 50 Series and GeForce RTX 40 Series cards.

 

At the same time, DLSS Multi Frame Generation technology generates up to three additional frames for each frame traditionally created, making it work efficiently with the full range of DLSS technologies to multiply frame rates by up to eight times compared to traditional processing methods. This massive performance improvement enables 4K gaming at 240 frames per second with full ray tracing on GeForce RTX 5090 cards.

Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake 2, a critically acclaimed game from Remedy Entertainment, is one of the most beautiful and immersive games released so far.

Hogwarts Legacy

A new update for Hogwarts Legacy is now available for download, improving ray tracing effects in the PC version and adding NVIDIA’s full suite of DLSS 4 technologies to the game, which is set in the 19th century within and around the famous Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The game has received significant critical and commercial success as one of the best open-world games.

DLSS Multi Frame Generation, integrated with DLSS Super Resolution and DLSS Ray Reconstruction, doubles frame rates by an average of 4x on GeForce RTX 50 Series cards compared to traditional rendering at full power. Additionally, DLSS Super Resolution and DLAA have been upgraded thanks to a new AI model based on transformer technology, and DLSS Ray Reconstruction has been introduced for the first time.

Star Wars Outlaws

With the upcoming update, Star Wars™ Outlaws™ will be better than ever on all GeForce RTX devices, thanks to the addition of DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation technology, along with an improved DLSS Frame Generation model that boosts performance and reduces VRAM consumption.

DOM: The Dark Ages

DOOM: The Dark Ages, a first-person shooter set in a world that blends dark fantasy and science fiction, offers intense combat and stunning graphics thanks to the latest idTech engine. This game is the third installment in the modern DOOM series and will officially release on May 15. It will thrust players into a dark and fierce medieval battle against the legions of Hell in an unparalleled experience.

On GeForce RTX 50 Series devices, DOOM: The Dark Ages will support DLSS 4 to enhance performance and visual quality. With the new DLSS Transformer AI model, features such as DLSS Ray Reconstruction, DLSS Super Resolution, and DLAA will be improved, delivering ultra-high image clarity. Additionally, DLSS Multi Frame Generation will ensure a smooth gameplay experience with higher frame rates, and improved detail and accuracy on GeForce RTX 50 Series cards.

Spider-Man 2

Both Peter Parker and Miles Morales return in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for a new and exciting adventure in the critically acclaimed series. The game was developed by Insomniac Games in collaboration with Marvel and the PC version was enhanced by Nixxes Software.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC supports DLSS, DLAA, and Reflex technologies from day one, along with three ray-tracing effects. DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation support will be added in a future update.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

On February 4, the highly anticipated Kingdom Come: Deliverance II will be released, published by PLAION, continuing the story from the previous installment. It takes players on a journey with Henry, the son of the loyal blacksmith, who finds himself entangled in a tale of revenge, betrayal, and self-discovery.

From the moment of its launch, GeForce RTX players will be able to enhance their experience in its stunning open-world setting of the 15th century with DLSS Super Resolution, which boosts frame rates and provides greater immersion in the details. NVIDIA App Update

 

Finally, the NVIDIA app is the essential companion for users with NVIDIA graphics cards in their desktop and laptop PCs. Today, NVIDIA is releasing major updates for the NVIDIA app.

 

For games and applications that haven’t yet been updated to DLSS 4 or added native support for DLSS Multi Frame Generation, NVIDIA app users can activate DLSS 4 overrides to enhance image quality across all GeForce RTX cards, unlock DLSS Multi Frame Generation for GeForce RTX 50 Series cards, and more.

 

With the launch of new games and updates supporting DLSS and RTX, NVIDIA will track the support for NVIDIA app overrides in the RTX games and applications list.

NVIDIA Broadcast app

With the NVIDIA Broadcast app, millions of users have transformed their offices and bedrooms into home studios using AI-powered features to enhance audio and video quality without the need for expensive, specialized equipment. Now, in the Discover section of the Home tab in the NVIDIA app or on NVIDIA.com, users can download a new update for NVIDIA Broadcast that adds two new AI-powered effects in the beta stage.

 

The first is Studio Voice, which enhances the user's microphone audio quality. The second is Virtual Key Light, which re-illuminates the person, providing even lighting as if there were a real key light defining the person’s shape and dimensions.

 

Since these new features use advanced AI models, they are recommended for video meetings or non-gaming live streaming when using a GeForce RTX 5080 or higher.

 

RTX Video can be accessed via System > Video in the NVIDIA app, where AI is used to enhance broadcast video across all GeForce RTX cards. In the latest update to the NVIDIA app, VSR (Video Super Resolution) has been upgraded to a more efficient AI model, reducing GPU resource usage by up to 30% when set to the highest quality settings, allowing more GeForce RTX cards to enable this feature.

Additionally, VSR now supports HDR video enhancement, so if users are watching any HDR video at a resolution lower than their screen resolution via a browser, it will automatically upscale to the native screen resolution. NVIDIA has also added a GPU Utilization feature for RTX Video when the quality setting is set to "Auto."

Additional Updates

The NVIDIA app development team has streamlined, accelerated, and updated two more features from the NVIDIA Control Panel in this new release, with more updates expected in the future.

Advanced Optimus enables dynamic switching between the GeForce GPU and integrated graphics on laptops. For basic tasks like word processing, the integrated GPU is used. When applications or GPU-accelerated games are launched, Advanced Optimus switches to the GeForce GPU to maximize performance, take advantage of high refresh rate displays, and enable G-SYNC.

Discover NVIDIA Smooth Motion

NVIDIA Smooth Motion is a new AI-driven model in the driver that helps improve gameplay smoothness by interpolating an additional frame between two displayed frames. For games that do not support Frame Generation, NVIDIA Smooth Motion is a new option that enhances the experience for players using GeForce RTX 50 Series cards.
